The hold of Karak Azul has been home to the Grudgestone clan since time immemorial. Before Karaz-a-Karak was even founded, this southerly hold has stood.

Jutting from the rock and out into the valley, Karak Azul has vast ramparts and cannon that overlook the vale as well as heavy gates that open out onto the mountain roads. In addition, the nearby entrance to the Underway gives access to the rest of Karaz Ankor -- or did, before the great cataclysm shook the mountains centuries ago.

Karak Azul is known for being lonely, surrounded on all sides by captured holds and hostile lands. It is also known for its fine ironwork. Most of the finest weapons in Karaz Ankor have been made in the halls of Karak Azul. While it was never fully captured, several assaults on it have pushed into the lower halls and twelve-score grudges have been writ on those occasions.

As the longbeards tell, the King of Karak Azul, Kazador, is a grim and fell Dwarf, turned so since an Orcish invasion spelled doom for his son.

The Dammaz Kron of Karak Azul records:

"The tale of King Kazador is a tragic story indeed. Once given to the greatest enjoyments of life, such as drinking, singing, Goblin hunting and counting his gold, Kazador is now a joyless shadow of his former self. He sits brooding in his throne room, plotting his revenge against the Orc Warlord Gorfang Rotgut. It was Gorfang that attacked Karak Azul and slaughtered many of Kazador's subjects, capturing more and dragging them back to his dungeons. Most insulting of all, Gorfang raided the King's throne room, where he shaved the King's son and nailed him to the throne as the greatest insult he could imagine. Now Kazador wishes for nothing more than to see Gorfang slain and his prisoners released - or their bodies returned if they no longer live."
